The AI Knowledge Studio is where you give your chatbot its brain. This is where you define its personality, give it knowledge, and choose how it learns. This guide explains each part of the AI Knowledge Studio screen.

1. Standalone AI Chat vs. Flow Builder

At the top, you can choose how your AI bot operates.

  • Standalone AI Chat (toggle ON): This is the simplest way to use AI. It bypasses the Flow Builder completely. The user talks directly to the AI, and the AI uses the knowledge you provide here to answer. It’s fast, powerful, and requires no flow building.
  • Flow Builder (toggle OFF): This allows you to use AI as part of a larger, structured conversation. You can use an AI Assistant block within your flow to call the AI at a specific point in the conversation. This is great for hybrid bots that mix buttons and AI.

2. Persona & Global Instructions

This section defines the core personality and rules for your bot. These instructions apply to every single conversation, no matter which Knowledge Source you choose.

  • Business Name: The name of your business, used to introduce the bot.
  • Global Instructions: This is a powerful field where you tell the bot how to behave. You can define its personality (e.g., “be friendly and cheerful”), set rules for message length, and give it a core purpose. The default prompt is heavily optimized, but you can add your own instructions here to customize its persona.

3. Knowledge Source

This is the most critical section. You have two choices for how your bot stores and accesses information.

  • Direct Prompt: A single, large text field (250,000 character limit) where you paste all your business information. It’s extremely fast and allows the bot to be very creative by seeing all the information at once.
  • Knowledge Base: A more structured approach where you can upload files (PDF, TXT, DOC) or add website URLs for the bot to learn from (500,000 character limit). The bot intelligently pulls only the relevant information to answer a question.

We have a separate guide that explains the difference in more detail to help you choose the right one.

4. AI Lead Extraction

This feature allows the bot to automatically detect when a user provides contact information (like a name, email, or phone number) and save it as a lead, even in the middle of an AI conversation.

Simply Enable this if you want your AI bot to capture leads for you automatically.
